A caring program by two men which started in 1995 has continued to grow by leaps and bounds, now has arrived in Forest City. Eddie Scruggs and Richard Moore had worked together for two years at Respite Care. Together they founded and began On on One Care, Incorporated in Shelby. The program is committed to providing leadership in disability services. Since then, One on One and their day support program, Club One, has grown and now includes seven full time homes and Club One Day Support in Cleveland County.

Their philosophy for One on One is to go out of the way to make each person feel at home and become a necessary part of the company. They believe in utilizing the individual strengths of each person to allow them to become stronger as a whole. Taking the time to get to know each person served is only one step in a mutual growth process. Simple to say, they are providing leadership in disability services, residential, periodical and day supports. Their slogans project their commitment. “Making a difference one at a time” and “Each person deserves the chance to shine”. Their day support program is Club One. This day programs focus is on continued mental and physical stimulation, person centered goals, encouraging personal growth and interest as well as group activities. This includes physical growth, safety awareness, mental growth, stress management, social growth and anger management. Each category has an immense list of activities. The company services include home and community support, personal care, and residential support. Their seven homes provide around the clock care.

In Rutherford County, in addition to the new facility at 182 Sparks Drive in Forest City (next to Bojangles), One on One already now has a home in Cliffside and is looking for other locations. Transportation includes wheel chair accessible vans.

After a welcome and ribbon cutting by the Rutherford Chamber of Commerce, an open house kept the doors open to the new facility until 7 p.m. on Monday, October 15th. Selected for the ribbon cutting was a client, Jerrome Littlejohn. For him this was a very special honor. The Director for the Forest City Club One is Robbie Houser.

The two founders, Richard Moore and Eddie Scruggs seemed to sum up their attitudes very well when we sat with them at the grand opening. They said that they wanted to continue to put “their best foot forward” and in a concise sentence proclaimed: “We never want to get so big, we can’t know all the names of those we help.” They both love what they do and get up everyday with the attitude: “We can’t wait to get to work!” Work to them is 60 or more hours a week.

Their reward is the accomplishment and self esteem each special person achieves.
