Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park hosted Brother Wolf Animal Rescue’s Outward Hounds Hiking Club this past Sunday. Outward Hounds connects volunteer dog-lovers with adoptable canines for weekly hikes on beautiful trails throughout Western North Carolina. Brother Wolf, an Asheville-based, no-kill animal shelter, welcomes volunteers to its Outward Hounds Hiking Club, which meets every Wednesday and Sunday at 10 a.m., and Saturdays at 9 a.m., at its adoption center year-round. The club provides opportunities for social interaction and exercise for both dogs and hikers while raising the awareness of pets looking for loving homes. Visit www.bwar.org or call 828-505-3440 for details on Brother Wolf and how to get involved.

“Chimney Rock has incredible views and a variety of easy to moderately difficult trails for dogs and their owners. Dogs are man’s best friend—a trip to Chimney Rock wouldn’t be complete without bringing your furry family members! We’re delighted the Park is so welcoming as a pet-friendly outdoor destination,” said Denise Bitz, Executive Director of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue.

Chimney Rock is a pet-friendly outdoor destination with five unique hiking trails, a 404-foot-tall waterfall and up to 75-mile panoramic views of Lake Lure and Hickory Nut Gorge from its iconic Chimney. Chimney Rock welcomes leashed pets in all the Park’s outdoor public areas and asks that guests please clean up after their four-legged family members. Our pet-friendly hiking trails include:

• Great Woodland Adventure– Fun for Fido and the kids (kids-at-heart, too)! With interactive Discovery Stations along the way, you’ll learn about some of the animals that call Chimney Rock home.

• Four Seasons trail– This trail will give your energetic pup some great exercise with a vertical climb of more than 400 feet.

• Hickory Nut Falls trail– Your pet’s reward at the end of the trail is the cool mists of 404-foot-tall Hickory Nut Falls, the second highest on the east coast.

• Outcroppings– a network of stairs and boardwalks leading up to the Chimney, where you and your dog can drool over the panoramic views of Lake Lure and Hickory Nut Gorge.

• Skyline trail– A great way to exercise your dog, the Skyline trail has many steps, but the jaw-dropping views make the effort worthwhile.
