A new logo, earlier registration, food vendors spread throughout, pre-registration at Bennett Classics Antique Car Museum, all contributed to making it bigger, better and easier for all. The new look was refreshing. The nineteenth annual car show was another step forward. For the dedicated fans and families who look forward to this event every year, this year the show projected one of the best thus far.

The crowd was in a "feel good" mood. Food courts and food vendors were busy as was our regular Forest City favorites. A good motor cycle display represented the popular two wheelers. When you consider the value of the cars and trucks displayed, there is no doubt that this annual "Hot Nights - Cool Rides" was definitely a multi-million dollar show. Between the customization and restoration of the vehicles, the annual big show displayed a lot of dedication and commitment by the owners.

One must realize that this is one of the largest shows in the Southeast. It is the largest single day event in Rutherford County. The visitors and show participants outnumber the town of Forest City's population. Danielle Withrow, Forest City Town Planner has often said of this show: "When the sun goes down, it's wall-to-wall cars and people."

The show seems to be an outreach of the post World War II development when Forest City became known as "Little Detroit". This was due to the immense activity of returning veterans who bought used vehicles, needing both detailing and repairs, then resold them to Detroit and cities throughout the Northeast. The badge, "Little Detroit", has stuck over the years to the pleasure of Forest City where autos are still big!

This year a 'job well done' should be given to Jennifer Hudson, Chairman of this years show and to Downtown Merchants Association President Kelly Dale. Also, to each of the hard working merchants that make this show such a success!
