On Friday, June 23, 2017, the Forest City Police Department will be hosting the 20th annual Kids & Cops event at Summey Park on Learning Parkway from 9am-12pm. The event is geared toward kids ages 12 and under, but the entire family is welcome to come out and join us. This is a great opportunity to meet various first responders from all over western North Carolina and learn about the different departments that protect and serve our neighborhoods and communities.

The event will be held rain or shine! There will be free food and drinks, live music, inflatable bounce houses and free safety items handed out.

Trophies will be awarded in various categories including Best Police Car, Best Fire Truck, Best Rescue Unit, Best EMS Unit, and Best Educational Display.

The Administrative Assistant, Lacey Euten, starts planning the event in January every year. "It usually takes about 6 months to get everything lined up and planned. It's a very hectic and stressful event to plan, but it all pays off when I see the smiles on the kid's faces. I love to see that everyone is having fun and enjoying themselves. We usually have about 1,800 people in attendance. This year we are supposed to have four helicopters fly in as well as having the Forest City Fire Department provide a giant sprinkler with the Tower One deluge gun."

Chief Jackson stated, "Kids and Cops is a great event for the police department and our community.

As in the previous years, we have invited our public safety partners to participate.

I would encourage anyone who wants to learn more about the agencies providing their public safety services to attend. It's rare to have all of these agencies all in one place and accessible to the community at one time. With this being our 20th year hosting the event, it makes it even more special considering all of the agencies and personnel who have attended and participated over the years. We look forward to seeing everyone there."

The Forest City Police Department would like to thank our sponsors, Papa John's Pizza, Sun-Drop, Wal-Mart and Lowe's, for helping to make the event possible.
