May we present a great collection of cancer survivors at McNair Field - all positive and happy - for good reason!

Two years ago, the Forest City Owls began a special “pink out” ball game salute for cancer at McNair Field. The color pink dominated the game. It was another example of the Owls continuing commitment to be involved in the community.

On Saturday, June 15, McNair Field was decorated in pink in honor of breast cancer and everything was about saluting cancer survivors and raising money for a cure. A silent auction at the ballpark produced funds that went directly to the Rutherford County Cancer Society.

Each Forest City Owl baseball player wore special pink uniform shirts which were auctioned off. Also, the pink bats used in the game went up for auction. In addition, $2.00 was contributed for each pink “second base” Owls shirt that was sold.

The singing of the national anthem was by a cancer survivor. The entire group took the field to begin the game. The Forest City Owls were the hosts for the Martinsville Mustangs. The Owls began the game with an eight game losing streak. Their record was 2 wins and 10 loses at game time. However, the “pink magic” seemed to work its charm. The final score was 13-4 in favor of the Owls. It was an amazing victory for our hometown team. It might well be indicative of good things to come. The Owls seemed to have found their mojo and the future looks bright.

This special event is an outstanding example of the constant commitment by the Forest City Owls. They are “above and beyond” when it comes to doing good and showing appreciation to Forest City and all of Rutherford County. When the cry of “play ball” is echoed at McNair Field, it is a salute.

May we say thanks to all survivors, players, coaches and staff.
