Indy 500

Here is to the most exciting of the races the past weekend. I always love the Indy 500. The tradition, the legacy, the biggest prize in motor sports of all.

It was Will Power, who came up with the victory after the top two cars had to pit for fuel with less than four laps left. I hate it for Stefan Wilson, whose brother, Justin was killed at Pocono in an IRL race after a nose cone of a car hit him in the head, killing him instantly in 2015. Stefan, who was leading the race on Sunday, ran out of gas as the leader in the final laps said he was racing for his brother. He put on a heck of a showing. What a story that would have been?

Of course, Power had done about everything in the Indycar but win the Indy 500, but that is now accomplished. The Australian deserved it and gave Roger Penske his 17th Indy 500 win. Danica Patrick ended her driving career after a crash, she still holds the record for best finish by a woman in the Indy 500, a third.

Coke 600

NASCAR's Memorial Weekend celebration ended up as the Kyle Busch Invitational. Busch, who won the 600 has now won at every track on the circuit in his Cup career. Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon came close, but never accomplished it. With the win, Kyle Busch cemented his place into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in my opinion no matter if he wins another title or not.

On Sunday, Martin Truex Jr. was running lap times similar to Busch with about 25-30 laps to go, but Busch was out front to far to be caught when Martin's car finally came to life. Kevin Harvick was also fast, but a blown tire in the first 100 laps destroyed any chance he had at winning.

NBA

The Cleveland Cavs made good on another trip to the NBA Finals, but Boston made them earn it. The way Jason Tatum, Marcus Smart and Marcus Morris had played at times in the series, the Celtics were primed to win the East. Lebron and company had other plans as the Cavs will play the Warriors. The Rockets had a double-digit lead in the game 6, but failed to put the Warriors away to wrap up the series. So this will be four in a row for Cavs Warriors final.

More Baseball for Rutherford County?

The Forest City Owls are back in town starting this week, plus Post 423 Jr. and Sr. Legion baseball start their seasons as well.

The Atlanta Braves have also been playing well this season. They have a game up lead in the East, but there is a long way to go. Right now, they sit second overall in the National League standings as a whole.
