Mitch Walters grandfather and father were auto dealers. His future was self proclaimed early, in the fifth grade, when the teacher asked all the kids to write a “Career Book”! It was a book about what they wanted to be when they grew up. Mitch Walters got an “A” on his paper and proudly stated that what he wanted was to have his own automobile dealership, just like his dad. He set his goals at a very young age and has and continues to have auto dealerships and realize his dream!

His enthusiasm is infectious. The only manner he can express himself is in constant positive statements. He chose the name “Friendship” for his dealerships because he says: “That’s what we are and always want to be - friends!” He didn’t want to put his name on the dealerships. He is a big believer that each business he owns must be a part of the community must stay in touch and give back. From his fifth grade “Career Book” dream, he now has 12 franchises, 14 locations, in five cities and two states. His mission statement is: “To treat our customers as friends...our employees as family ... and be the absolute leader in our market for sales and service.”A big indication of that philosophy is that every month, someone among his now 14 locations is rewarded with a surprise $10,000 check! As he celebrated the opening of the new Friendship Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram dealership in Forest City, Misty Pratt was the winner and was presented with $10,000 from the Friendship Family of Dealerships! Quite a surprise! She thought she was there to film a commercial.

Why did he select Rutherford County? Mitch Walters says” the location is wonderful, the people are wonderful and Rutherford County is perfect for his business”. He is also excited about giving the county an economic boost! More jobs for more people. He believes that Isothermal Community College is a great contributor to the area. He sees it a big plus. He can’t say enough good things about his decision to come to Rutherford County. “Rutherford County has it all, from Bristol, Tennessee we flew in to the Rutherford County airport in just 32 minutes. This market is so good and is one of the best places to live in America. I’d love to live here!” If you think he is unreal, he is! A very positive, caring and enthusiastic man - the ultimate go getter.  “I’ve assembled a great team for Forest City headed up by a great guy, Dealer Partner Roy Mullins, who relocated from Bristol, TN to Rutherfordton with his wife, Chrissy and his daughters Carol Ann and Kirstin. I definitely think I’ve got the best!”

As the dealership grows, it will be adding more to the economic input with more job opportunities. We have seen the Horsehead Corporation select Rutherford County after looking at over 100 locations, we have welcomed Facebook to our county too. Millions upon millions of dollars invested in a great place and growing. It is, perhaps, the best turnaround county in America. Now, another business sees the great potential which our county offers. It just keeps getting better. It bodes well for a great future. Aren’t you glad you live in Rutherford County? It’s becoming the “land of opportunity!”
