Veteran's Day in Rutherford County is an especially significant occasion, as we stand united as a community in support of the brave men and women who have selflessly served this nation. Join us on November 10, 2018 at RS Middle School in Rutherfordton, as we come together to honor the generations of history that have fought for our freedom and remember those who paid the ultimate price.

A time of storytelling, connecting and reflection is how we salute our American heroes this year and every year. The Veterans Day Celebration provides an opportunity to shine a light on our veterans, exhibit commitment to support our veterans and to give our veterans a chance to meet up with old friends and share the memories in remembrance of everyone who has worn the uniform, past and present. If you have never been, we encourage you to set aside an hour of your day on November 10th and be a part of this event. It is a powerful experience that will reignite your American Pride and warm your heart for years to come.

The annual Salute to Veterans is a free community event, organized by the various veterans groups throughout Rutherford County, to share special messages featuring every branch of our armed forces. Military vehicles will be on display along with artwork from local students showing what our Veterans mean to them and an appearance by the Rutherfordton Police and Fire Departments. Food will be provided and a representative from the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation will be collecting new, unwrapped toys in support of their mission to distribute toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas.

There are two other memorable ways you can honor a loved one, and that's with a customized veteran banner flag or Christmas wreath for grave sites. The Heroes Minted Here honorary flags feature a vet's picture with their name, service dates, any battles or conflicts they served in, and their armed forces seal. Banners are displayed in downtown Rutherfordton during holidays such as Veterans Day, Memorial Day and 4th of July. Even if you do not have a loved one here, you can make a donation to help us reach our goal to place a wreath on every Veteran's grave site in Rutherford County. Purchases can be made online at MyRutherfordton.com/online-store or in person at Rutherfordton Town Hall.
