Alice King Hammett, 92, of Forest City, NC, passed away, Saturday, October 17, 2015.

She was born on January 13, 1923 in Anson County, NC. She lived in Forest City, NC from the age of 3 and was the daughter of R.V. King and Vonnie Fortune King.

Alice worked for King Brothers Grocery, Peoples- Kimbrell's Department Store, and Mozelle's Dress Shop. She was also a devoted wife and homemaker for many, many years. Alice enjoyed cooking, flowers and azaleas, collectables, and crocheting. Her most compelling enjoyment was cooking for and spending time with family and friends. Alice was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Forest City for 89 years, She was a member of the Asbury Sunday School Class and the Roe Walker Circle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Alfred Hammett, and by her brothers and sisters; Hazel King, Leake King, James Thomas King, Sarah King Watkins, Benjamin Earle King, Robert H. King, R. Vonn King, and Willie B. King. She had 12 nieces and nephews, 45 great nieces and nephews, and numerous great- great, and great- great- great nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her brother, Daniel E. King and his family, and one sister in law, Myra Hammett and her family.

Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. O'Neil Haynes Officiating. Interment followed in the Cool Springs Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to the Cancer Patient Assistance Fund, c/o First United Methodist Church, 341 East Main St, Forest City, NC 28043, or the Hospice House of Forest City, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043.

The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
