A very tired little girl hugs her mother as her grateful dad gets ready to speak to the audience.

On Sunday, February 3rd, at the Green Hill Community Center, it was all about a community embracing the needs of a little five year old girl named Paisley Haynes. She is the youngest of three girls. On December 12, 2012, at the Children’s Clinic, Asheville Memorial Hospital, Paisley was diagnosed with leukemia (cancer of the blood cells). She will have to endure at least two and a half years of treatment to become cancer free. It will be a long, hard journey, and medically very expensive.

In order to assist with the tremendous expenses, the Green Hill Community planned an event to help. The event called “Prayers for Paisley” was planned by Paisley’s two Aunts, Sherri and Page. The event exceeded all expectations when the Community Center was overflowing with people standing outside the entrance and spilling out all over the grounds. A luncheon to begin the program was planned for 750 people but ran out of food and was forced to turn away several hundred. Inside the center, people signed up for the live auction. Face paintings, lighting of luminaries, hair feathers, a bake sale and massages were all sold to help raise funds. The stage was overflowing with things for the live auction which started before 3 p.m. and went until after 8 p.m.  Hundreds of dollars in donations were given outright.

Around 3:20 p.m., a beautiful, tired little girl finally arrived with her mother and father. They were overwhelmed! Her Dad, John, took the microphone to thank everyone, but just after a couple sentences was not able to contain himself.

It is estimated that well over 1000 people came out to offer their support. “Prayers for Paisley” was overwhelming. Suffice to say, it displayed the loving and caring nature of the Green Hill Community and Rutherford County. What better place to be when a family is in need?

God Bless Paisley and everyone who came out to help!
