Chase did a great job in the first half against Crest, but their air attack doomed the Trojans in the second half. As a result, Chase lost 35-0 on homecoming night.

The Trojans were down just 12-0 at the half, but could never muster any offense against a very stingy Crest defense.

Zach Anderson, Kaleb Logan, Mike Singletary and Rashad Wilkins were solid defensively for Chase, especially in the first half.

Now, they have to regroup as they play a team that comes off their by, R-S Central

The Hilltoppers will host Chase this coming week at "The Palace."

R-S Central has been competitive in every game this season, but against Shelby. However, the last three times the two teams have played in Rutherfordton...the game has been decided by seven points or less.

Thomas Jefferson played well this past week and barely lost in overtime to Blacksburg 28-20 on the road last Friday. Blacksburg had only loss once coming in, but the Gryphons ground game may have exposed them a little. Bill Lay ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.

Thomas Jefferson will host Cherryville this coming week. The Ironmen are a much better football team than their record shows. I expect them to be a tough test as well for the Gryphons.

East Rutherford finally showed well defensively against undefeated Burns last week, but fell 24-7 at home. It was 10-7 for awhile, but the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half.

The Cavaliers will play at Shelby this coming Friday.

Carolina Panthers.

Okay, maybe it is time to panic a little bit. The Panthers bread and butter.....their defense, was exposed in about every way last week against Atlanta. They now have Tampa Bay on Monday night at home. It's not been fun to be a Panthers fan this season so far, but it's not like they haven't shown flashes of a year ago. Consistency has been lacking.

Clemson and Louisville played a heck of a football game this past Saturday. Lamar Jackson is the real deal and so are the Cards. Clemson takes an 18-point lead at half, Louisville storms back to take the lead, Clemson comes back to take the lead, then makes a defensive stand at the end. That formula has been working for the Tigers the last couple of seasons. Still, the Tigers kept their defense on the field too long in this one. It would likely long been over had the defense not tired out in the second half. Clemson's offense, who had struggled at times, finally looked in gear. I'm curious to see how they play throughout the rest of the season.
