Amanda Atkinson Stancil, age 81

Amanda Atkinson Stancil, age 81, of Mooresboro, NC, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016.

Born February 17, 1934 in Cleveland County, she was a daughter to the late James Oliver Atkinson and Iva Allen Atkinson. She worked in textiles for many years and retired from Fiber Industries. Amanda was a life-long and active member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Cleveland County. She taught Sunday School and was the coordinator and director of the Senior Citizens Ministry at the church. Amanda had a servant's heart and enjoyed volunteering to help in any capacity. She also loved doing yard work and flower gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, Gene Stancil.

Survivors include two sons, Micah Stancil and wife, Cheryl of Cowpens, SC and Ricky Stancil and wife, Rita Taylor of Chesnee, SC; sister, Peggy Elliott of Caroleen; two brothers, Claude Atkinson and wife, Sarah of Mooresboro and Allen Atkinson and wife, Jean of Chesnee; sister-in-law, Betty Bumgarner and husband, Barnes of Taylorsville, NC. She is also survived by four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Cleveland County with Reverend Kevin Hamrick and Reverend Dr. Bill Westafor officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Senior Ministry of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 1301 Mt. Pleasant Church Road, Mooresboro, NC 28114

Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrangements.
