American Legion Post 423 recently took a tangible donation of $4,349 to the VA Medical Center in Asheville. The donation included toiletries, books, puzzles and more for veterans who are patients at the hospital. Items are collected from the community each year in June with the Post taking them up in July, said Adjuntant Johnny Lowery. The Post chose a summer month because it was a time when the VA said there weren't as many donations made. It's just one of the ways the Post is involved in the community. The Post also supports Salvation Army, Grace of God Rescue Mission, Wounded Warrior Project and more. If you would like to donate items, they can be taken to the Legion Post located at 406 Boss Moore Road in Ellenboro.
