She spent her retirement attending band concerts and wrestling matches, and being proud of her grandchildren. Her last two years were spent with old friends at Carolina House Assisted Living.

She used her talents to make doll clothes each Christmas for the Yokefellow Center's Christmas Cheer program. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Forest City, where she founded the First Baptist Fine Arts Series in memory of her husband Jack.

She is survived by her children, daughter Janet Stephens Forrest and her spouse Danette Canup, of Winston-Salem, NC and son, Perry Dean Stephens and his wife Tammy, of Forest City; three grandsons, one granddaughter, one great granddaughter; her sister, Fannie Wilson of Bostic, and a host of nieces, nephews, and sisters- and brothers-in-law.
