Ann S. Callahan, age 83, of Spindale, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018.

She was a native of Buffalo, NY and the daughter of the late Clarence Smith and the late Jennie Lautz.

Ann was a lifetime member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America; baptised, confirmed and serving the church. She was a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Medical Corps as a Hospital Corpsman. Ann loved to garden in flowers and flowering shrubs and trees. Ann was an accomplished seamstress making quilts and doing decorative sewing. Ann was active in the Girl Scouts of America, serving as a Scout leader as well as Regional Cookie Sales Manager in both Mobile, AL and Brunswick, GA. She was also involved in the Lutheran Western NC Via de Christo program serving as a servant on multiple weekend retreats.

She is survived by her husband: Allen M. Callahan. One Daughter: Susan Callahan of Mundelen, IL. Four Sons: Michael Callahan of Amarillo, TX. Scott Callahan of Seaside, OR. Brian Callahan of Lakeland, FL. Timothy Callahan of Monroe, NC. Twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.

The memorial service was held at the Advent Lutheran Church of Spindale. Pastor David Hinkelman officiated. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society; PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or Hospice of The Carolina Foothills; PO Box 336 Forest City, NC 28043 or to The Advent Lutheran Church of Spindale; 118 Reveley St. Spindale, NC 28160.
