The second annual “Dancing With The Stars” of Rutherford County at R-S Central High School turned out to be a great success. It is a fund raiser for the R-S Central SkillsUSA Section Two Club. The program supports the funding to take students to both state and national competition. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA’s main goal is to help each student excel. Their motto is : “Preparing for leadership in the world of work.”

Two Rutherford Co. Hoops Teams Make Regionals, Three Fall In Second Place
   When we left off last week, all five high school teams that had made the state playoffs in Rutherford County had advanced into the second round. Later on in the week, R-S Central’s boys, Thomas Jefferson’s boys and the East Rutherford’s girls ended the season with second round loses on the road.

However, the R-S Central girls and the East Rutherford boys won rounds two and three, which places them into the Western Regionals in Greensboro this week. Only three more wins stand in the way of a title for those two remaining in postseason play.

The Military Order of Purple Heart
Is starting a chapter in the Forest City, NC area and is seeking all veterans of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard who has been combat wounded in America’s wars and have received the Purple Heart medal. The Purple Heart is America’s oldest decoration presented by the U.S. Government which was started by General George Washington on August 7, 1782. It is awarded to members of the armed forces who are wounded at the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or died or wounds received in action. Someone did an experiment with two groups of golfers.  Each group had a round of golf videotaped.

The video of the rounds was edited.  The first group was shown video of their best shots—their longest drives, their most accurate iron shots and chips, their one-putts. The instructor conducting the experiment praised the golfers and told them to, “Go out there and play like this again.” And the golfers did. In fact, they went out and actually improved their scores.
