One for the History Books...All 4 Rutherford County Teams Win Friday

It’s strange how the inevitable is just that. In week three of the 2012 high school football campaign in Rutherford County, each team was clicking on all cylinders.

It was the first time in Rutherford County history, all four schools from within won on the same night. Ironically, the other three times that Thomas Jefferson has won a game, nobody else from Rutherford County could do so.

Thomas Jefferson (3-0) keeps on rolling as they posted their first ever road victory in school history, 26-7 over Asheville School.

Three lanes all the way up to the street entrance on South Broadway were a constant reminder of what a good deal was being offered.
Western Carolinas First... It All Started 30 Years Ago For Just $10!

You might call it insight. You could even call it a gamble. Some may have thought it was crazy. Whatever you might have called it in the fall of 1982, 30 years later you might now call it genius.

The idea of becoming the first fast oil change in all of Western Carolina seemed a good probability to brothers Vance and Gene Sisk. They committed themselves to a business called Fast Way Oil Change. Everybody went to service stations back then. The Sisk brothers had a rough time in the beginning. They were lucky to service four cars a day. However, their determination and persistence finally paid off.

Listen To Life

Do You Get Lost?

My wife called to tell me that she was sorry, but that she’d be late.  I was leaving to speak to a group and would be gone overnight.  She had planned to see me off.

I asked if everything was okay.  She said, “Yes, but I took a wrong turn and it’s thrown me off schedule.  I knew better than to go this way.  I don’t know what I was thinking about.”

I laughed and said, “I did the same thing the other day.  I knew where I needed to go and for some reason went a longer way around.  At first, I got frustrated with myself, and a little angry with myself.

Outdoor Truths

Outdoor Truths
When I was young, Labor Day marked the beginning of the school year. It seemed that I joyfully anticipated going back to school as much as I joyfully anticipated it being over in the springtime. These same anticipations are still shared by parents all over the U.S. (you know who you are). It seems that after a period of months, doing the same thing, we are ready for a change; only to be ready for another change in another few months. It is a vicious cycle that can be harmful if we don’t watch it. (more about that later) I think that is one reason I like living in an area where I can enjoy all four seasons without any one of them lasting too long.
