Gearing Up For NFL Playoffs, R-S Central Will Host County Wrestling Tourney

In the AFC, it will be Denver and New England getting first round byes as the No.1 and No.2 seed.

As for the two AFC games this week, No.6 seed Cincinnati will pay a visit to No.3 seed Houston. No.5 seed

Indianapolis heads to No.4 Baltimore making this a weird matchup in one sense, being that the Colts used to play in Baltimore in the early years of the NFL.

The Rutherford County Attraction Continues... Another New Business Creating More Jobs!
The discovery that Rutherford County is “the place to be” continues. This past Tuesday witnessed yet another company that has come to our county. Save-A-Lot, a discount supermarket chain with approximately 1,250 stores in the United States, held its grand opening. The new store is located in the White Oaks Plaza in Spindale. The store occupies over 13,000 square feet. Most important, it creates 20 new jobs! Supervisor Mark Sykes referring to the new store proudly states: “I think it’s wonderful to be here. We’ll offer great food, great prices and great people. We are very impressed and already like Rutherford County. Save-A-Lot is your neighborhood grocery store. We offer discount prices every day, so you can bring home fresh foods at low prices.”

“I just decided to quit,” she said.  “I quit cold turkey—no patch, no pills, no gum.  I just quit.  And it was hard,” she said, “I mean I’ve been smoking for seven years.  It’s what I do.

Outdoor Truths
As a young adult, I remember fishing the river bank at Mr. MacDonald’s farm. He was an older man whose property ran along the river. I don’t remember how we first discovered this place but it seemed to not upset him when we set up camp on his farm. Many of those days he would come by and check on us and tell us a few stories about days gone by.   One of his tobacco barns stood only a few yards from where we fished and it seemed that no matter what time of year it was, he always had a few tobacco plants hanging inside. On occasion he would give us some leaves to take home and twist for a good homemade chew. His recipe was either to cut up a fresh apple and let it marinade the leaves for a few days or to ease that twist of tobacco down into a jar of honey or molasses. This was my favorite.
