Time Ticking On Post 423 Season; Owls Coming Around As First Half Draws To A Close

A young team who yearns for a confidence booster. That’s exactly the Rutherford County Post 423 Senior Legion team in a nutshell this season. The bad part is that they need to get going to make a postseason spot.

Post 423 (4-6) goes 1-3 this past week and have six games left in the regular season. Right now, they sit eighth out of nine teams, but within three games of being in fourth.

   Saturday nights now have a special treat for all lovers of country and bluegrass music. The Foothills Music Hall is open to the public with amazing talent. The StarShooters and the legendary Dan X. Padgett perform from 7 to 11pm for listening and dancing at 127 Trade Street in Rutherfordton.

   The StarShooters have performed just about everywhere country music is heard and enjoyed. Just like the multi-talents of Dan X. Padgett who has played and taught for seven decades.

Are you aging today?

    I was thinking about aging the other day.  It seems to me that we want to live to be 100 years old, but none of us want to look it.  We want to be 100, but look 25.  So we rub lotions and potions on our wrinkles to hide them.  And when we can’t hide them, we inject them with botox.  And when that doesn’t work, we nip, tuck, lift, and pull. 

    And what about our hair and teeth?  We don’t want our hair to turn white, but we can’t get our teeth white enough.   So we put stuff on our hair to keep the white covered up and stuff on our teeth to bleach the brown.  We want our teeth white and our hair dark.

   Unless you are in school, the summer is not considered to be most people’s favorite time of year. We usually choose the spring or fall because of the comfortable temperatures and the changes that can be easily seen in the environment around us. In the spring the trees bloom, the plants grow, and the wildlife is preparing for new life. In the fall those same trees, plants, and wildlife prepare for the colder and dormant days of winter. But what about the summer? As a child, these were my favorite days. The hotter the sun got, the better the swimming pool felt. I can’t ever remember complaining about the heat when I was young. Now I am tempted to do it every day.
