It's that time of the year again. The long awaited MayFest on Main Street is just a few days ahead. Downtown Rutherfordton will once again be filled with visitors from all around our region as the streets transform into a mass of arts and crafts and activities that will entertain young and old alike.

Born May 31, 1929, Edna Mae was the 3rd gift given by God to Spurgeon and Lonnie Toms. Her parents and 4 siblings: John Henry, Dorothy, William Spurgeon Jr. and James preceded her in death.

Lynn Shinske Kuhl, 75, of Spindale, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017.

Robert Ellis, 77, of Forest City, passed away Monday, April 17, 2017.

Susan Baynard Parton, age 59, of Rutherfordton, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017.

Thomas "Bud" McKelvey, 78, of Rutherfordton, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017.

Willie M. Camp, age 74, of Rutherfordton, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017.

I've always known just where a few turkeys roost. It's the same place every year. For the last several years I have not even used a locater call. I've just made my way to this area and set up about a hundred yards from where they usually are. I can't remember the last time my opening day routine was different and when they were not there. This year was no different. Three toms responded but I couldn't get them any closer than eighty yards.

Walk for Life: Hands of Hope for Life is a 501C-3 non-profit Christian Pregnancy Care Ministry for Rutherford and Polk Counties. 24^th Annual Walk for Life, Sat. April 29, 10am. Registration 9am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Forest City. Food, games, face-painting, door prizes, music 11am-1pm. Join us for a great time and take a stand for LIFE!!!
