It was sports talk big time.

The Rutherford County Sports Hall of Fame revealed five new names on June 12 that tell remarkable stories.

Carolyn Dewberry Bratton, Venson Hamilton, Tommy Hicks, Tonya Philbeck Hobbs, and Randy Ingle will be celebrated at a dinner on September 26 at The Foundation.

Avionna Chanel Evans, infant daughter of Shaquona Suber and Anthony Evans, Jr., passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019.

Betty Cain Funchess, age 79, of Forest City, formerly of Carlsbad, NM, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019.

Emily Metcalf of Forest City passed away June 12, 2019.

Mary Catherine Suttle Godfrey, "Cathy" age 81 of Spindale passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019.

Michael Dean "Mike" Whiteside, age 60, of Rutherfordton, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

Nellie Greene Smith, age 90, of Ellenboro, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019.

Rita Faye Hutchins Vess, 61, of Rutherfordton, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019.

Robert Lee Leverett, Sr., age 81, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019.

Spurgeon E. "Gene" Hyder, 65, of Rutherfordton, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019.
