High School Baseball Update

R-S Central (16-5, 9-4) won an Easter Baseball Tourney in Burke County last week with three consecutive wins. They beat Bandys in the finals. East Rutherford and Central play each other twice this week.

East Rutherford (18-4, 11-2) lost two of three in Pitt County against some stiff competition. They lost to Whiteville during that time who could be a 2A state contender from the East.

Chase (14-6, 8-5) finished third in the same Easter Tourney R-S Central won. This is the last week of the regular season and the top four teams are within four games of each other.

NFL Draft

As for the Carolina Panthers, they ended up with Brian Burns and Greg Little as the first two picks and I thought both were big needs that could meet the value sooner rather than later. Burns is a solid edge rusher and Little is a perfect fit on the o-line. A quarterback in the third round was interesting as they picked up Will Grier, who I think has real potential in the coming years. If Cam gets hurt, Will could be the back up. Christian Miller as an another edge rusher isn't a bad pick as far as rotation wise.

Jordan Scarlett at a scat back was kind of a shocking pick since they already have McCaffery. However, having any sort of a playmaker beside McCaffrey isn't a bad thing.

Dennis Daley as an offensive tackle was a needed pick and I like Terry Godwin as a steal at wide out. The Panthers could have went after a safety, which is my biggest problem, but otherwise they did well.

Arizona got a number of picks and did well considering they met a quarterback, cornerback and a safety need. Thompson at 139 might have been the best steal outside of Murray at No.1.

The 49ers in getting Nick Bosa was big for them. The Dolphins did a great job in the first two picks with Christian Wilkins and Michael Deiter. The Patriots also came out winners by nabbing N'Keal Harry, Damien Harris and Jarrett Stidham. The Jets also had two pretty good picks to shore up the defense.

The Steelers ending up with Devin Bush was a perfect fit for them as well. However, the Eagles and the Redskins are going to be better considering the draft they just had. The Eagles came up with two strong early picks and Washington was right on the money with the first five picks.
