Barbara Anne Turner Shuford, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 5, 2014. She was born in Charlotte, NC on June 13, 1928 to the late Mr. and Mrs. William Ellis Turner. Barbara Anne lived in Forest City, NC until four years ago when for health reasons she moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. She attended Mary Washington College and graduated from Anderson University in Anderson, South Carolina. Barbara Anne’s older sister, Doris Turner Alexander(Jake) and her two brothers: William E. Turner, Jr. and Benjamin Franklin Turner preceded her in death.

Barbara Anne married Grady Watterson Shuford in 1949. After Grady’s death in 1993 she embraced her lifelong passion of serving others and her Lord. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Forest City where she served in many capacities but her ministry was visiting nursing homes and taking care of her family and friends. Barbara Anne and Grady had two children who survive them, Shannon Shuford Wells (Calvin) and Ladd Durham Shuford. Her pride and joy were her three grandchildren: Fleming Wells  Edwards( Whit), Calvin (Vin) F. Wells, Jr. (Elizabeth), and Courtney Wells Sewell (Lindsay). She felt her greatest blessing was being able to enjoy her eight great grandchildren: Whit Edwards, Shuford Edwards, Wells Edwards, Lulu Wells, Webb Wells, Grady Sewell, Mary C. Sewell, and Turner Sewell. She is also survived by her sister Shirley Turner Archibald (Stan), her sisters-in-law: Trilby Turner Holcomb and Mary Sue Turner and special nieces and nephews. Barbara Anne was blessed with many outstanding caregivers who helped enrich her later years. She was fortunate to have enjoyed many old and new friends in Wilmington who made these past four years so rewarding.

A service of celebration for the life of Barbara Anne Shuford was held at First Baptist Church of Forest City with Reverend Dr. Barry K. Keys and Reverend Dr. Bobby Morrow officiating.  Interment followed in the Cool Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 201 West Main Street, Forest City, NC 28043 or South Mountain Christian Camp, Post Office Box 9, Bostic, NC 28018 or to the charity of one’s choice.
