Co-Owner Bill Bennett goes over in detail all the amenities of his 1928 Buick on display at the museum.

In February the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) presented its’ prestigious National Museum Award to Bennett Classics Antique Auto Museum in Forest City. On Tuesday, August 20th, yet another honor was bestowed upon the six year old museum founded by Buddy and Bill Bennett. The Great Smokey Mountain Region, Little Detroit Chapter, which includes 16 Southeast states, selected Bennett for their regional tour. Over 200 antique car enthusiasts descended upon Forest City to witness the great collection of almost 100 antique car, trucks and fire engines that the Bennett Museum has in its’ prestigious collection. They were overwhelmed by what they saw. Hosts Buddy and Bill Bennett made themselves available not only to welcome their guests but also to answer the many questions of and about any particular vehicle.

Every member of the AACA drove their pride and joy to the event. One of the eldest cars to show up was a 1924 Packard which came from Michigan. Another beautiful example of American auto design was the prestigious 1928 Auburn. There were also many vintage autos driven to the museum which presented a show by themselves. If you were fortunate enough to be there you had a big treat of seeing antique autos both inside and surrounding the outside of Bennett. The Bennett brothers said: “It was truly an honor to be chosen for this event. We are pleased and enjoyed seeing their autos and welcoming members to our museum.”

After the “show and tell”  time, all members enjoyed lunch at the Carolina Event and Conference Center. It was a good time to socialize and review the sightings at the Bennett Classics Museum. Upon completion of the luncheon event, everyone got in their own antique autos and the parade of American auto ingenuity drove to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock for a sightseeing tour.

With the onslaught of auto antiquity, it must have been quite a treat for visitors and workers at Lake Lure and Chimney Rock to be able to see such a great venue of antique autos.
