Bertha Haynes Gentry, age 93

Bertha Haynes Gentry, age 93, of Forest City passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015. 

She was born December 3, 1921 in Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late William Logan Haynes and Florence Lattimore Haynes.  Bertha was a faithful member of Florence Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over fifty years and served on several committees.   She retired from Burlington Industries at the former J. C. Cowan Plant and had the distinction of being named the first female supervisor at the plant.

Her son, William Christopher Gentry and her husband, William Isaac "Ike" Gentry preceded her in death.  Bertha was also the last surviving sibling of eleven children in her family.

Survivors include her sons, Reverend Andrew R. Gentry of Asheville, Eric G. Gentry and his wife RuthAnn Striegel of Greenville, SC, a daughter, Susan C. Gentry of Boiling Springs, SC.  There are also two grandchildren, Lucreita Ridings and her husband Eric, Angi Etters and her husband Bennie, six great-grandchildren, Kristen Ridings, Jacob Ridings, Halie Ridings, Kaitlyn Ridings, Hunter Etters and Sydney Etters all of Boiling Springs, SC. 

A Celebration Life Service was held in the Calvary Baptist Church, Boiling Springs, SC with Reverend Scott Linnerud officiating.  A Graveside service was held in the Cool Springs Cemetery in Forest City, NC officiated by the Reverend Dr. Bobby Gantt, Pastor of Florence Baptist Church.   Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043 or the charity of the donors' choice. 

The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
