Betty Haynes Lyles, 82

Betty Haynes Lyles, 82, of Spindale, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016.

A native of Cliffside, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Etta Pruett Haynes. Betty taught English for 30 years and retired from her beloved RS Central High School. After retirement, she and Raymond enjoyed traveling the United States and Europe. Betty was a member of Spencer Baptist Church; she participated with Spencer Serving Seniors and Kappa Kappa Iota sorority.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 63 years, Raymond Lyles of Spindale; daughter Lynn Smothers and husband Bill of Spindale; one granddaughter and husband of Charlotte; step grandchildren Luke Smothers and wife Allison, Maggie Flynn and Lillian McBrayer; seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Spencer Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Caldwell and Rev, Billy Vaughn officiating. Interment followed in Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spencer Baptist Church, 207 N. Oak Street, Spindale, NC 28160.
