Betty Henson Taylor, formerly of Forest City, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017.

She was the daughter of the late C.M. and Jennie Henson of Forest City.

She is survived by one daughter, Vicki Ledbetter and husband, Ricky of Spindale; two sons, Shawn Taylor and wife, Janice of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois and Kevin Taylor, Sr. of Trevor, Wisconsin; one brother, Charles Henson and wife, Sara of Garden City, Idaho; one daughter in-law, Peggy Taylor of Winthrop Harbor; one brother in-law, Wade Barrier of Salisbury, NC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren. Also surviving are five nephews and one niece.

Ms. Taylor was preceded in death by three sisters, one niece, one brother and one brother in-law.

Betty was a graduate of Cliffside High School, class of 1951 and Isothermal Community College in Social Work and the University of SC Spartanburg in Technical Nursing. She was a registered nurse before her retirement and had been active in health care and nursing for many years.

She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Waves. After basic training and clerical school, she was stationed at the Pentagon for two years as a receptionist in the office of the Chief Of Naval Operations, Admiral Arleigh Burke, Logistics Division.

Ms. Taylor received an Honorable Discharge at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Naval Base, after the Korean War. She loved Gospel Music and enjoyed taking care of her flowers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Pet Center, PO Box 623, Rutherfordton, NC 28139 in memory of her beloved dog, Sugar.

Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is assisting the family.
