Betty Jean Scruggs Hartley, age 89

Betty Jean Scruggs Hartley, age 89, of Charlotte, passed away, March 10, 2016.

A native of Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Edd A. Scruggs and Oralee Lowrance Scruggs, a homemaker, and longtime member of the Lake Norman Coast Guard Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husbands, J.W. Koone and William S. Hartley.

Survivors include three daughters, Joanne Myers and her husband Randy of Charlotte, Betty Carol Brown of Virginia Beach, Debbie Koone of Charlotte, a brother, Bobo Scruggs and his wife June of Forest City, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with Evangelist Hugh Penson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to, Novant Health Hospice, P.O. Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28204. The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
