Bill R. Millwood, age 76 of Forest City passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015.

Bill was born August 3, 1939 in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Walt and Eddie Ray Millwood. He grew up in Forest City and was a graduate of Cool Springs High School Class of 1958. A faithful member of First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Choir, the Asbury Sunday School Class, was past President of the Methodist Men and served on various committees. Bill could often be found in the church kitchen assisting in the preparations for church meals.

He also enjoyed civic activities, including membership in the former Forest City Jaycees, and has served as President of the Rotary Club, Forest City Little League, Forest City Youth Football League, and the Rutherford County Wildlife Club. Bill was also a supporter of American Legion Post 74 Baseball, working in the concession stand during games. He was a member of the Jeff L. Nelson Masonic Lodge No. 605, AF&AM in Tryon.

In his professional life, Bill worked in banking, starting his career at Citizens Federal Savings & Loan, which later became RBC/Centura Bank where he retired in the Forest City Branch. Following retirement he continued to work, first at Ingles Supermarket and currently was managing the Sports Center in Forest City.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jones Millwood, four sons, Ricky Millwood and wife Denise of Rutherfordton, Rusty Millwood and wife Lynn of Rutherfordton, Ryan Millwood and wife Lisa of Spindale, and Reggie Millwood and wife Meghan of Knoxville, TN, a brother, Donnie Millwood and wife Pat of Forest City, sisters, Betty Smith and husband Marshal, Shirley Campbell and Harold all of Forest City. His sister, Bobbie Millwood preceded him in death. Also, nine grandchildren,

Funeral services were held in the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Neil Haynes, Reverend Dr. Bobby Gantt, and Reverend Sam Whaley officiating. Interment in the Cool Springs Cemetery was private for the immediate family. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 341 East Main Street, Forest City, NC 28043.
