C. Clayton Worley, age 76

C. Clayton Worley, age 76, of Ellenboro, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014.

Born July 12, 1938 in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Charlie Bowman Worley & Vallaree Biggerstaff Worley. 

Clayton worked for Stonecutter Mills for several years & was an over the road truck driver for 38 years, working for Akers Trucking, McLean Trucking & Overnite Trucking. He was also a funeral assistant for Harrelson Funeral Home for the last 6 years. Clayton was an active member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church & loved his family dearly. He had a wonderful sense of humor & always enjoyed a good story. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jerrell “Pappy” Bedford.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Elsie Bedford Worley; daughter, Cindy Mayer & husband, Mark of Kernersville; sister, Sally Greene & husband, Clayton of Bostic; granddaughter, Lindsay Mayer & fiancé, Corey Clement of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Pat Bedford of Forest City. He is also survived by 4 nephews, Steve Bedford & wife, Debbie, Greg Bedford & wife, Nancy of Forest City, Matt Bedford of Concord & Jay Bedford & wife, Bailey of Jacksonville, FL; 2 nieces, Teresa Brown &husband, Scott of Ruth Community & Tammy Branch & husband, Bryan of Rutherfordton; 2 great-nephews, Harrison Branch & Dillon Bedford; 3 great-nieces, Gracie Branch, Sarah Brown & Haley Bedford.

Funeral services were conducted at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend David Hawkins & Reverend Ned Owens officiating.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.  

Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336, Forest City, NC  28043 or to the Oak Grove UMC Fellowship Hall Renovation Fund, 1507 Oak Grove Church Rd., Ellenboro, NC  28040.

Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family.
