The Little Detroit Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America is joining other organizers across the United States in celebrating Collector Car Appreciation Day July 8.

This year marks the seventh for the annual event, and the second time the Chapter has offered something locally. A cruise-in will be held on Friday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bennett Classics.

Gary Barnett, a member of the club, said it isn't an event for classic cars per se, but rather for any car someone deems as important.

"If you love your car, bring it out," he said. "It can be grandma's Gremlin - if you love it, pull in and park."

Music will be provided by DJ John Adkins, and a 50/50 drawing will be held, Barnett continued. The Good Humor Ice Cream Truck - a Ford truck from the 60s - will be on hand with cold treats, and discounts will be offered for those who want to tour the car museum.

"The cruise-in is free to attend, and admission to the museum will be $8 for adults and $3 for kids," Barnett said.

Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), a trade association for businesses in the automotive specialty equipment market, and Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO), a council within SEMA, are dedicated to preserving and promotion the automotive restoration industry.

"Car collection is a uniquely American pastime and it's played an integral role in our society," said SEMA Vice President of Government Affairs Steve McDonald. "The Senate Resolution and the events taking place all over the counter are a further testament to the importance and passion of this industry."
