Carl Wilson Gammon

Carl Wilson Gammon of Austin, Texas, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017.

He was born in Bryson City, N.C. on August 15, 1953 and was the son of Pauline Deal Gammon and the late Robert W. Gammon. Carl graduated from Wake Forest University with a Masters degree in Biology and a Civil Engineering degree from NC State University. After college, Carl began work in the Norfolk Navy Shipyard doing engineering work with ships. Later Carl worked for ICT, and also Advantest in Germany and Chicago, then later owned a Line-X bedliner business in Spartanburg SC, finally moving to Austin, Texas.

He married Elizabeth Thornhill of Virginia. They had two children; his son, Benjamin Thomas Gammon of Midland, Texas, and daughter Emily Elizabeth Thornhill Gammon of Rochester, NY.

Carl was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Forest City, NC, was active in the Royal Ambassadors, Training Union, Sunday School, as well as mission trips both domestic & abroad to Ecuador, He loved traveling and also enjoyed playing tennis.

Along with his children, he is survived by his mother, Pauline Deal Gammon of Forest City, two brothers Robert Gordon Gammon of Forest City, and John William Gammon & his wife Haley Taylor Gammon and their daughters; Lauren Elizabeth Gammon, Maeven Elise Gammon and Erin Grace Gammon.

The memorial service was held at First Baptist Church of Forest City, NC with the Reverend Rex Blanton officiating.
