Who would have thought that East Rutherford baseball would have been playing for the 2A state title one month ago? This has got to be the most surprising visit back to the title series in Cavalier history.

They got hot at the right time and things happen.

East Rutherford (22-7) won in two games last week over Parkwood to advance into the title round. They will go for their sixth state baseball title when they face South Granville in Burlington this weekend (June 3rd and 4th). South Granville (23-3) is the defending 2A title holders.

South Granville can do it all. They can pitch, hit and defend. It's going to be a tough task, but as hot as the Cavaliers are right now, there is no doubt in my mind that they can gain a sixth state title.

East Rutherford has outscored their opponents in the playoffs by a 46-11 margin. South Granville has a 44-12 advantage in that same category. That's a little spooky, but it sets up a great showdown for the title.

NASCAR

What a big win for Martin Truex Jr. over the weekend? Finally, after all the bad luck he has come across in races this season, he ends up in victory lane at one of the most prestigious events on the Cup circuit...The Coke 600. What makes the story more important is that his girlfriend has been battling cancer and the two of them continued to believe that good things do happen to good people. I have a feeling that this won't be the last trip to victory lane for Truex this season. Truex just led 392 of the 400 laps in the Coke 600 and I believe he made himself a points contender considering we have a lot of 1.5-miles tracks left to visit this season.

Indy 500

At least there was a lot of passing, but the fuel strategy won the event for rookie Alexander Rossi. The ending was much more subdued than the build up, but nobody got hurt and that's what I take away more from open wheel racing.

NBA

The Cleveland Cavaliers are back in the NBA Finals. That's no shock, but it took them longer to take out Toronto that I first thought. So, the question becomes, can Lebron finally bring Cleveland a long awaited title back to town? No doubt, the West is the toughest league right now. The Warriors has won three straight after going down 3-1 to win the series and will now face Cleveland for the championship!
