Cemetery Revitalization

On a hill along side a lonely country road over near the Polk County Line, lays a very old cemetery. The cemetery is located at 125 Mandy Lane, Rutherfordton. This cemetery has been in disuse for many, many years. Inside its confines you will find the grave markers for four Revolutionary Patriots, one early county sheriff and one Confederate Soldier. Of course, one will find a few other markers as well.

A little over three years ago the local chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, (SAR), with permission of the land owners, Bob and Carolyn Keever, under took the task of restoring this "Hallowed Ground". Lead by Jim Brewer and the late Mike Rhyne, assisted by Dr. Leonard Goforth and others, the task was completed more than a year ago.

Over the past year or so Jim Brewer and his wife Jackie, worked tirelessly using raffles to raise the funds for the above roadside marker. Many thanks to J's Salvage and Smith's Drugs for the assistance in fund raising as well as Hardin Monuments who installed the marker.
