Charles “Wink” Horton, age 84, of Rutherfordton, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015.
Born June 2, 1930 in Rutherford County, he was as son of the late Clyde Pannell Horton & Sarah Green Horton. He was a veteran of the US Army & served during the Korean War. Charles worked Stonecutter Mill for over 39 years before his retirement & was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Davis Horton; granddaughter, Jamie Darlene Horton; 3 brothers, C.P. Horton Jr., Howard Horton & Carl “Bo” Horton.
Survivors include 2 sons, Bobby Horton & James Matthew Horton & wife, Angela all of Rutherfordton; step-daughter, Wanda Sprouse also of Rutherfordton; 3 sisters, Margaret Upton of Sunshine, Grace Newton of Andrews & Martha Buchanan & husband, Bob of Shelby; brother, Robert Horton & wife, Tammy of Sunshine; 3 grandsons, Casey Porter, James Matthew Horton, Jr., Charles Michael Horton & great-granddaughter, McKenna Porter.
Funeral services were conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Wesley Hudgins officiating. The Rutherford County Honor Guard accorded military honors. A private interment followed in Cedar Grove UMC Cemetery.
