Chasing the Endzone starts next Friday

High School Football

Next week is the first weekend of the High School Football regular season. August 17th Chase, East Rutherford and Thomas Jefferson will all host, while R-S Central heads to McDowell.

Chase has a new buzz about them, while East Rutherford is primed for a great season. Thomas Jefferson is grounded enough to understand what it takes to win and they too are expected to have a good season. R-S Central could go either way this season, but I expect them to play hard-nosed every week.

This week I plan to speak to all four coaches and give you in-depth game previews as Week One in local high school footballs is rapidly approaching.

NASCAR

Chase Elliott finally won a cup race in his 99th start. Popular driver, Elliott held off Martin Truex Jr. on the final lap at Watkins Glen to pick up the first of likely many wins. Personally, I thought his first win would come at Michigan since he has been so good there. Speaking of Michigan, that is where the series heads to this weekend. Since he has been running much better over the past few weeks, I will take...Elliott for the win.

Braves

The Braves have now won six of their last seven games. They are doing it in typical Atlanta fashion for the most part by barely escaping, winning five of those by three or less. Atlanta is now back scrapping for the NL East lead by being 1.5 games back for now. Philly isn't helping Atlanta at the moment though since they currently ride a five game winning streak.

Owls

Forest City did make the playoffs and played High Point-Thomasville in the Southern Regional championship, but the season ended in round one in losing to the Hi-Toms. The Owls, who won the second half regular season title in the South Region and made the postseason for the ninth time in eleven years.
