Chivous Elmer Walker, age 85

Chivous Elmer Walker, age 85 of Ellenboro passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014.  

He was born December 23, 1928 in Rutherford County & was a son of the late Edgar & Osteen Philbeck Walker.  Elmer was a graduate of Ellenboro High School Class of 1947 & was a retired supervisor for Stonecutter Corporation with 47 years service. He was a faithful member of Corinth Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, & former Sunday School teacher as well as on the building committee, the Pulpit Committee, and various positions in the church. Elmer was a Master Mason & member of Forest City Masonic Lodge No. 381 AF&AM, & a Master Gardner who enjoyed sharing his garden with neighbors and friends. He played the guitar by ear but his goal was to learn to read music which he accomplished at 82. Elmer was a loving husband, father & family man. He was preceded in death by brother, Thomas Weldon Walker, & sisters, Sybil Jones & Myrtice Myers.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Obie Walker, a son, Larry Chivous Walker & wife Jeannette of Forest City, a daughter, Trina Walker Smith & husband Nelson of Ellenboro, 8 grandchildren, Sylvia Graybill, Chivette Fournier, Michelle Hutchins, Clint Walker, David Washburn, Beth Washburn, Ethan Smith & Walker Smith.  There are also 17 great-grandchildren & 2 great-great- grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Corinth Baptist Church with Reverend Mike Conner & Reverend Ad Hopper officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Corinth Baptist Church, 767 Pinehurst Rd, Ellenboro, NC 28040.
