On Monday, May 26, Memorial Day Services were held once again in Forest City.  After Presentation of colors by the RS Central MCJROTC, the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance, and Invocation Mayor Dennis Tarlton of Forest City (pictured above) addressed the crowd. He was followed by a variety of speakers who were a part of the U. S. Military and who had served, each invoking the thoughts of “lest we forget and may we always remember”. Perhaps the most defining moment was when Seabee Doug Jackson, PO3, USN read this poem he had written for the special occasion. Here in our community there are some outstanding women and men, Who when trouble comes upon us, in our defense they step right in. Think of how much they love this country, to be trained in the art of death. Only to remember each and every face until their dying breath! To our brothers we have lost in this never ending fight, And the ones who came back home only to go back every night. We are here today to say thank you and honor those who served. Even though it falls far short of what you all deserve. They work in rain and mud, and snow and blizzards too. Their sacrifice and pain unknown by most of you. They are many faces male and female, young and old. They are the guardians of freedom and their stories must be told. I know you wonder and want to ask why? What’s in it for you? There is no answer but love of country that can explain just what they do. So with prayers of love and safety for all of our brave vets, say thanks again and understand much you’re in their debt.

God Bless America, our veterans, and may we always remember their sacrifices for our country. Yes, we all have heard the phrase “all gave some and some gave all!
