With restaurant experience under her belt, owner and chef Cynthia Surratt states, “Tangy gives basic American food a Twist.”  This new downtown restaurant offers a clean environment with vibrant pops of color that makes dining here a pleasurable experience.  There is something on the menu that is sure to appeal to everyone, from fried green tomatoes, generous portions of fresh salads, chicken and waffles, to the daily specials of meats and vegetables.  And, let’s not forget the overly appetizing desserts.  Family owned and operated, Tangy Café and Eatery is truly where great southern food meets great Southern hospitality.  The food is familiar and straight forward.  

Specialty items from Tangy’s menu include mouthwatering chicken wings served with homemade sauces, chicken and waffles served all day and shrimp and grits, just to name a few.  

Jonathan “J.J.” Surratt and his wife Cynthia live here in Rutherford County.  Together, they have seven children and the support of family and friends to help make Tangy Café and Eatery a huge success.  Their love for one another and cooking has led them to where they are today.  The newly renovated building is just the beginning for the Surratt family.  It is their goal to provide the highest quality of fresh food to their customers.   “The support we have received has been amazing,” commented owner, J.J. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was be held at Tangy Café and Eatery Friday, February 7th, 2014 at 11:30 AM. The restaurant is located at 213 N. Main Street, Rutherfordton, NC. A full menu and lunch specials will be offered immediately following the ceremony.
