Rutherford County Humane Society Thrift Shop

New hours for Winter, open Fri. & Sat. for Jan. and Feb. only. New items arriving weekly. Proceeds benefit the Rutherford County Humane Society, a no-kill, non-profit 501(C)(3) animal rescue organization. We accept donations of food and bedding supplies for dogs/cats waiting to be adopted. Donations are tax deductible. 828-625-1042. 305 Buffalo Creek Rd., Lake Lure.

Naturalist Niche: Winter Birding

 Not all of our feathered friends fly south for the winter! Colder months are an excellent time for birding; leafless trees and open view sheds provide ample opportunity to observe birds that don’t mind chilly temperatures. Grab your binoculars and a field guide and join a Park naturalist to see which birds have stuck close to Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park for the winter season.
