American Legion Post 423

Collecting needed items for Veterans during the month of June and will take to the VA Hospital in Asheville in July. Bring items to our post at 406 Boss Moore Rd., Caroleen or call 828-657-6145 for pickup. Patient needs: Shave cream, disposable razors, tooth paste & brushes, denture cleaner, bath soap, paper back books, puzzle books, white socks and stick deodorant. Rutherford County Humane Society Thrift Shop

Open Wed. thru Sat., 10am-4pm. New items arriving weekly! Proceeds benefit the Rutherford County Humane Society, a no-kill, non-profit 501(C)(3) animal rescue organization. We accept donations of food and bedding supplies for dogs/cats waiting to be adopted. All donations are tax deductible. 305 Buffalo Creek Rd., Lake Lure.

Benefit Ride

To send Jacob Brown to Hydro Camp, Sat. June 13, registration 10am, kick stands up 11am. Solo riders, $15. Double riders, $20. Each rider receives a hotdog plate after the ride! Non riders, $5. Jacob suffers from Hydrocephalus. Proceeds to help his family with travel expenses. Info, 828-447-2454.

PAWS Fundraiser

Sat. June 13, parking lot of Ornametals and Finer Welding, Inc., 340 U.S. Hwy. 74-A Rutherfordton. Low cost spay/neuter, pet food pantry, and transport to rescues are just a few of the things that PAWS does to help the pets in our county. We CAN make this a No Kill community. Summer Feeding Program

Sponsored by the School System and the C. Ray & Cynthia Kennedy foundation. We are in need of volunteers to help serve, monitor, and be a presence with the children. We are holding a training session at 799 Academy Street Spindale, Sat. June 13, 10am. All are invited. Prostate Cancer Support Group

Free Movie Night

The Whitehouse Community Club invites you, Sat. June 20th, starts at dark, rain date: June 27. Come join us for "Big Hero 6" on a huge outdoor screen on the baseball field. Education/Support Group

Female Teen Domestic Violence Ed/Support Group will meet w/Dr. Johnnie Martin, Tues. June 16 and then every Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30pm. Come learn the warning signs of possibly abusive relationships and controlling behaviors. What he calls "love" may actually be abuse. 828-245-1390 Ext. 104 (Sally) for location and details. Diabetes Awareness

Tues. June 16, the Cleveland County Family YMCA and the YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program will be partnering with the Forest City Owls to sponsor their "Diabetes Awareness Night." Those in attendance will receive educational opportunities and resources for improving their lifestyle and wellbeing. 704-669-3678.

Mobile Food Pantry

Wed. June 17, 10am the Washburn Community Outreach Center will be sponsoring a mobile food pantry through Second Harvest at South Mountain Christian Camp. Celebrate Recovery

Is a recovery program based on principles from the 8 Beatitudes in Christ's Sermon on the Mount. It is where people can safely work together in helping those dealing with all types of hurts, hang-ups, or habits.
