Rutherford County Humane Society Thrift Shop

Open Wed. thru Sat., 10am-4pm. New items arriving weekly! Proceeds benefit the Rutherford County Humane Society, a no-kill, non-profit 501(C)(3) animal rescue organization. Female Teen Domestic Violence Ed/Support Group will meet w/Dr. Johnnie Martin, every Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30pm. American Legion Post 423

Collecting needed items for Veterans during the month of June and will take to the VA Hospital in Asheville in July. Lymphedema Education Class: Thurs. June 25, 6pm at the Cancer Resource Center (next to Belk at the Tri-City Mall). This class is for those who have had cancer treatments that involved radiation, the removal of lymph nodes, venous failure, injury or trauma. Commander Camp 525

The Lt. William Corbitt Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp #525 & the Ruth A. P. Watson Order of Confederate Rose Chapter #54 will hold their Chartering Ceremonies Sat. June 20, 3pm at the SCV Camp HQ; 2606 US Hwy. 221, Forest City. A Real Son (The man's father was a Confederate Soldier) will be present as will dignitaries of the SCV. The Corbitt Camp will hold a Cross of Honour Dedication Saturday 1pm at Rutherfordton City Cemetery at the gravesite of Lt. William Corbett. All are invited.

Rutherford County Libraries

The Summer Reading Program continues Tues. June 23, with a free program by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department. Since the theme this summer is "Every Hero Has a Story," we've decided to learn about our local heroes and what they do--including the K-9 officers. Besides explaining their jobs, the police dogs will also provide an exhibition of their talents. They will be at the Haynes Branch Library in Henrietta at 9:30am, at the Rutherford County Library next to the Health Department at 12:30pm, and at the Mountains Branch Library in Lake Lure at 3:30pm.
