So far, we have seen a tough beginning to the basketball season for Rutherford County. Youth and injuries are taking it’s toll. Still, there is a ton of hoops left to go this season.

On the men’s side, East Rutherford (2-3, 1-1) just beat a pretty athletic Kings Mountain team, but lost to very guard heavy East Burke. East Rutherford hosted a game on Tuesday, but will go to Shelby on Friday for a huge game within the conference.

R-S Central (4-3, 2-1) has already taken down Shelby. Although, the Golden Lions were without a couple of football players, count it a solid win for the Hilltoppers this season. The Hilltoppers downed a much better Draughn club and lost by one to Crest this week.

Chase has struggled and they visit R-S Central at the end of the week (12/19)

R-S Central girls (4-3, 2-1) have three very capable ladies to help them compete in the SMAC. Teja Twiity, Kyra Davis and Charmee Miller all stand six feet tall and bring a very tough inside game for the Lady Hilltoppers. Staying out of foul trouble and finding enough offense is still in question. At least Coach Fuller can count on blocks from his three playmakers inside.

East Rutherford’s girls (2-3, 0-2) could very well bounce back after falling twice last week by less than six points. They have Burns and Shelby this week and both have struggled mightily so far this season.

The NFL playoff picture is coming to light with just two weeks left in the regular season.

The NFC is has been pretty wild, but only nine teams are available for six spots. As of Sunday night, it’s 1) Arizona 2) Detroit 3) Dallas 4) Carolina 5) Seattle 6) Green Bay. On the outside: Philly, New Orleans and Atlanta.

Here is how I see it finishing. I think Green Bay will win out and Arizona won’t beat San Francisco or Seattle. Detroit has the least difficult schedule all season I think they find a wildcard spot.

Carolina just took back the NFC South lead, but I just don’t trust them. The meeting in the Georgia Dome less than couple of weeks from now will decide thing. I think the Falcons are playing better right now, so give me Atlanta as the four seed. Then again, Derek Anderson is 2-0 as a starting quarterback for the Panthers this season. Who would of guessed that when the season began?

I like the Eagles taking the East. I like Dallas as a team and they are way better than Detroit. However, it’s that time of year when the Cowboys find a way to screw up. Dallas won’t make the playoffs.

Prediction: 1) Seattle 2)Green Bay 3) Philly 4) Atlanta 5) Arizona 6) Detroit

The AFC is pretty is way more complicated. While six spots are up for grabs, 12 teams are vying for them.

1) New England 2) Denver 3) Indy 4 Cincy 5) Pittsburgh 6) Baltimore.

The first three teams have already clinched their divisions, but the last three are still up in the air. However, I believe that all those teams 4-12 will split and the picture will look the same now in two weeks.
