Daniel Edward "Dan" King, age 89

Daniel Edward "Dan" King, age 89 entered the Gates of Heaven on February 22, 2017.

He was the youngest of ten children born to R. Vonn King and Vonnie Fortune King on April 30, 1927 in the family home on South Broadway in Forest City. Dan was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II. On his return to Forest City following military service, he worked several years before earning a degree from Wofford College. After working as the Personnel Manager for Cone Mills at both Florence and Avondale Plants, he earned his Master's Degree and went on to become the Guidance Counselor at Chase High School for many years where he eventually retired.

He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Forest City where he was active in the Chancel Choir and served on numerous committees in the church over his lifetime. He served as a mentor and board member of the McNair Foundation and was honored with the Forest City Man of the Year award. Dan was a former member of the Forest City Civitan Club and was a member of the Lions Club. He also loved to garden and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and caregiver to a wide array of people in the church and community. It can be said that Dan King was a true Servant of Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of fifty years, Beth Beam King in 2010 and by his brothers and sisters; Hazel King, Leake King, James Thomas King, Sarah King Watkins, Benjamin Earle King, Robert H. King, R. Vonn King, Willie B. King, and Alice King Hammett.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel Bruce King and Edward King both of Forest City, three grandsons, and a large number of nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews that cherished him like a father.

The funeral service was at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend J. O'Neil Haynes and Reverend Tony Beam officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.

The family respectfully request that memorials be made in his memory to the First United Methodist Church, 341 East Main Street, Forest City, NC 28043.
