David John Erskine, age 75

David John Erskine, age 75, of Forest City, NC, passed away August 8, 2014.

Born July 9, 1939 in Manchester, New Hampshire, he was a son of the late Samuel Erskine and Catherine Conley Erskine. David was a veteran of the US Army and member of the New Hampshire National Guard for twenty-one years.  He served during the Berlin Crisis.  He worked in the printing business most of his life and was employed by Rumford Printing and Liberty Press.  Before moving to Rutherford County, he lived in Hooksett, New Hampshire for forty years and served as a faithful elder at the Manchester Christian Church and was also a member of the Scottish “Mackenzie” Clan.  He was a current member of Crestview Baptist Church.  David was a man dedicated to his Lord, his family, his country and his community.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Erskine; five half-brothers, Lewis, Harold, Robert, William and Sam Erskine; sister, Janet Erskine and two half-sisters, Mary Smith and Hazel Smith.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-four years, Janice Squire Erskine; two daughters, Robin Fazzari and husband, Carmine of Ellenboro and Dorothy “Dotty” Allen and husband, George of Rutherfordton; son, David John Erskine, Jr. of Forest City; sister, Jessie Dimick of Worchester, Massachusetts; one brother, Donald Erskine and wife, Pamela of California and half-brother, Frank Smith of Florida. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Arianna Allen, Steffan Fazzari, Lucas Fazzari and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at Crestview Baptist Church with Reverend Kevin Rohm officiating.  Interment followed in Eternal Hills Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.  

Memorial donations are suggested to Crestview Baptist Church Building Fund, 630 S. Church Street, Forest City, NC  28043.
