Delbert "Del" John Ligon, age 71

Delbert "Del" John Ligon, age 71, of Spindale, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2018.

Del was born July 27, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Delbert William Ligon and Marie Belcore Barlow. Del honorably served in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After his military service he worked for many years in the hospitality industry in the Jacksonville, NC area and in Chicago, Illinois as a chef. He owned and operated two restaurants in Jacksonville, NC; Marie's Italian Beef and Chicago Cafe and Bakery. After moving to the Rutherfordton County area in 2008, Del became active in the Cpl. Chris S. Ebert Marine Corps League detachment #1221 and served several years as Commandant. He was truly dedicated to his family and to his country.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Rudena "Rudi" Gibbs Ligon; son, Scott Anthony Ligon of Jacksonville, NC; daughter, Candace Ligon Burns (Roger) of Hubert, NC; stepsons, Robert Christopher "Chris" Brown of San Francisco, CA; Bishop Kevin Scott Brown (Caroline) of Wilmington, DE; Vincent Gregory Brown (Debra) of Forest City; and James "Rocky" Lawson Fallon, Jr. of Charlotte. He is also survived by two grandchildren; and ten step-grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A gathering of friends and family was held at the Marine Corps League Headquarters, 120 West Trade St, Forest City, NC. A flag presentation was conducted by the Marine Corps League in honor of Mr. Ligon's service to his country.
