Donald "Lefty" Brooks, age 78

Donald "Lefty" Brooks, age 78 of Cliffside, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016.

He was born July 21, 1937 in Rutherford County and was a son of the late Bunyan Brooks and Vernie Brooks Waters. He was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and worked for more than 40 years as a Master Mechanic in the machine shop at Cone Mills, Cliffside Plant. Don was a faithful member for 57 years of the Cliffside United Methodist Church where he had served in various church offices. He also was a former member of the Board of Directors for Chase Corner Ministries. Donald also served his country in the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Edna Brooks, and brothers and sisters, Morris Brooks, Joyce Horton, Doris Brooks, Bernice Martin, and Wayne Brooks.

Survivors include his daughter, Kim Brooks Harris and her husband Keith of Cliffside, sisters, Maxine Brooks Marlowe of Bostic, and Glenda Brooks Scruggs and husband Robert of Hollis as well as a sister-in-law, Diana G. Brooks.

The funeral service was held at the Cliffside United Methodist Church with Reverend Robert Hodgens officiating. Interment followed in the Cliffside Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard.
