Doris Blackburn McBrayer, 84, of Forest City, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014.
A lifetime resident of Forest City, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Albert & Minnie McCluney Blackburn. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William Paul McBrayer. Mrs. McBrayer had the longest membership in the First Presbyterian Church of Forest City having worshiped there since 1942.
She was a former elder & a long-time choir member.
In 2006, she was presented with an Honorary Life Membership Award from Presbyterian Women, Presbyterian Church.
She was retired from Rutherford County schools & served as a Hospice volunteer 14 years.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Susan McBrayer of Atlanta, GA, & Ann McBrayer Royster & her husband, Mike, of Shelby; 1 son, William Paul “Bill” McBrayer, Jr. & his wife, Laura, of Hickory; 1 sister, Martha B. Morrison & her husband, Charles, of Shelby; & 3 grandsons, Paul Royster of Shelby, & Will & Thomas McBrayer of Hickory.
Funeral services were held at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Becky Stanley officiating. Private burial followed in Cool Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church at P.O. Box 181, Forest City, NC, 28043.
