Edward Harry Short, Jr. was born on August 15, 1944, to Grace Elizabeth (Warrick) Short and Edward Harry Short, Sr. (U.S. Navy) at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia.   He passed away on June 13, 2013, at the age of 68.

Ed graduated from Francis C. Hammond High School in Alexandria, Virginia, Class of 1963, after which he went to trade school and became a Master Electrician.

He lived and worked in many states on several nuclear power plants, finally settling in Polk County.  The last years of his career were spent working at Wilsonart in Fletcher.  He was also an independent licensed Electrical Contractor, doing business as Mr. Ed’s Electric Service.

Ed liked all types of music and played the guitar. He also enjoyed collecting vintage radios, nostalgic glassware and coins.

   He was predeceased by his parents, Grace and Harry Short of Goldsboro; an infant brother, Dennis Earl Short; his daughter, Becky Lee (Short) Barnes; and a grandson, Seth Ray Alvarado.

Mr. Short is survived by two sons, Edward Gary Short and Walter Douglas Short of Mill Spring; three granddaughters, Tressa Lee Barnes of Phoenix, AZ, Rebecca Shayne Short of Mill Spring, Brandy Kay Stephens of Iowa; a sister, Alice Lavenia (Short) Fatherree of Hockessin, DE; and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Mill Spring Baptist Church, with Rev. Vince Hefner officiating. Mr. Short was interred at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro.

Crowe’s Mortuary is serving the family.
