Ernest “Ernie” James Shock 77 years old, a resident of Lake Lure, NC passed away September 9th 2012. 

Ernie was born in Whitewater Virginia on September 17th 1934 to Florence and Dewey Shock. He married Patricia K. Ross on September 17th 1955. Ernie worked for Barnes Pumps, Fisher Body and Ohio Waste Control in Ohio. He was an active member of the United Auto Workers Association until 1971. He moved to Ft. Lauderdale Florida in 1972 for employment with the Ft. Lauderdale News and was followed by his family in 1973. 

Ernie and Pat split their time between Ft. Lauderdale, Ohio and Lake Lure NC for several years until they retired permanently to Lake Lure in 1998 to their cabin in the woods. 

Ernie and Pat were married for 56 years and were 8 days short of celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary when Ernie passed away. Together they raised 5 children. Russell L Shock of Marion NC, Raymond A. Shock who preceded his father in death on September 7th 2007, Ernest J. Shock Jr. of Rutherfordton NC, Tonia K. Landry of Marion NC and Ross M. Shock of Travelers Rest SC. 

Ernie loved to watch sports on TV (or slept during them) and was an ardent supporter of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ernie and Pat were faithful attendees of Old Fort Mountain Music where Ernie was the announcer for a time. 

Ernie and Pat were members of Advent Lutheran Church in Spindale NC and were faithful attendees. 

Ernie is survived by his sisters Ruth and Sylvia, and his brother Glen all of Ohio. He is survived by his wife Pat, sons Russell, Ernest, and Ross and his daughter Tonia. Ernie had 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Florence, brothers Lee, Richard, and Robert, and his son Raymond. 

Ernie was cremated on September 11th 2012 and a memorial will be held at Advent Lutheran Church 118 Reveley St. Spindale, NC 28160 on October 27th 2012 at 3pm. Reverend Ronald W. Fink, Pastor of Advent Lutheran Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers please donate in memory of Ernie Shock to the Advent Lutheran Church organ fund.

Ernie’s ashes will be placed in the ground of his property in Lake Lure with the ashes of his son Raymond. 

Crowe’s Mortuary is assisting the family of Mr. Shock.
